Philanthropy Officer Forests, People, Climate

Casey Box brings over 15 years of experience and expertise in advocating for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, participatory grantmaking, movement building, and environmental issues. In 2013, after several years of supporting Land is Life, he transitioned into the role of Executive Director, focusing on expanding a broad and trusted network of Indigenous grassroots partners that has thrived for over 25 years. Under his leadership, Land is Life directly supported more than 200 grassroots causes in 2020 alone.

Most recently, Casey served as Director of Global Strategy at The Christensen Fund, where he oversaw an $8 million annual grantmaking portfolio prioritizing long-term, unrestricted support to Indigenous-led organizations worldwide. He led The Christensen Fund’s endorsement of the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Forest Tenure Pledge and served as Vice Chair and Chair of its Forest Tenure Funders Group—experiences that strengthened his ability to cultivate diverse, equity-centered donor networks aligned with Indigenous Peoples (IP), Afro-descendants (AD), and local communities (LC) rights and land governance. He has demonstrated success in building and sustaining collaborative donor efforts that move beyond short-term, project-based funding models toward systemic support for IP, AD, and LC autonomy—the same transformational shift that Forest Peoples Climate is driving.

Casey holds a B.A. and a Master’s degree in International Public Policy and Non-Profit Management from New York University.
