Alejo Maggini
Program Officer, Global Climate and Land Use Alliance
Alejo Maggini is a Program Officer for the Climate and Land Use Alliance’s Global Initiative, based in Mendoza, Argentina. A conflict resolution practitioner and educator, he facilitates multi-stakeholder collaboration and trust-building processes that reflect the priorities of communities on the frontlines of climate action, sustainable development, peacebuilding, and food systems transformation.
Before joining CLUA, Alejo was a facilitator at the Meridian Institute, where he worked closely with Indigenous Peoples, local and forest communities, family farmers, and women and youth leaders around the world. His work focused on advancing coordinated local-to-global efforts in regenerative agriculture, just transitions, and ocean and coastal conservation through place-based initiatives and international policy engagement.
Earlier in his career, he served as a political advisor to municipal governments and diplomatic delegations, supporting programs that addressed structural racism through community-based truth and reconciliation processes, promoted LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and strengthened peace education curricula. During the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, he represented Costa Rica in the Fourth Committee of Special Political and Decolonization, focusing on peacekeeping operations, humanitarian affairs, and diplomatic relations.
Alejo holds a B.A. in Diplomacy & World Affairs and Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. He is also an active member of United World Colleges movement for peace and sustainability, which he joined after graduating from UWC Maastricht.
